French Fruit Tarts
At Gourmand!, we love to offer you the French classics, but we also try to do it in a way to provide something different, something unique.
Our shortcrust is nothing like what you can find in the other shops.
We make it with vanilla powder (from our used vanilla pods, no waste), ground almond and lime zest which gives its particular and unique taste.
Then comes the crème pâtissière. A kind of custard, but it is not a custard as you know it in England. We use vanilla pods and vanilla infused sugar to make it even more delicious.
Then come the fruits. Well Mother Nature did a pretty good job so we won’t do anything other than slicing them. The tart is glazed using a French glazing to make it look beautiful, delicious, indulgent, gourmand.
DID YOU KNOW? At the beginning of the 20th century, the Tatin sisters, owner of a restaurant at Lamotte-Beuvron, centre region of France, wanting to bake a tart, forgot the pastry. They decided to put the pastry on top and baked it like that. They then turned the tart upside down before serving it.
That’s how they invented Tatin's tart.
